Chapter 19

, And as Jesus entered Jericho, and passed through it
, there was a man, whose name was Zaccheus, who was wealthy, and head of the tax collectors
. and he wished to see Jesus, what he was like, and could not, on account of the crowd, because Zaccheus was small in stature
. And he ran ahead of Jesus, and climbed a wild fig tree, in order to see him, for he was to pass that way
. And when Jesus came to that place, and saw him, and said to him, Come down quickly, Zaccheus, for I must be at your house today
. And he quickly came down, and greeted him with gladness
. And when they all observed it, they murmured, and said, He has gone in to be guest with a man that is a sinner
. And Zaccheus stood tall and said to Jesus, My Lord, half of my riches I give to the poor, and to any man who I have wronged in any matter, I payback fourfold
. Jesus said to him, This day salvation has come to this house, for he also is a son of Abraham
. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost
And while they heard these things, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Realm of God was to soon unfold
. And he said, A certain man of high birth was going to a distant region, to become royalty, and return again
. And when called his ten servants, and gave them sums of ten pounds, and he said to them, Use these until I return
. But the citizens of his city hated him, and they sent envoys after him, saying, We wish this man not to rule us
And when he had obtained the royalty, and had returned, he ordered those servants to be called, who he had entrusted his money, that he might learn of how each of them had profited
. And the first came, and said, My master, your pound has earned ten pounds
. He said to him, Well done, good servant! As you have been faithful over a little, you shall take over ten towns
. And the second came, and said, My master, your pound has earned five pounds
. He said likewise to him, You also shall take over five towns
. And another came, and said, My master, here is your pound, which I kept, stored in fine linen
For I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man, and withdraw that which you did not deposit, and reap that which you did not sow
He said to him, Out of your own mouth will I condemn you, you vile servant. You knew that I am a hard man, that I withdraw what I did not deposit, and reap what I did not sow
? Why did you not put my money into the broker's hands, that when I returned, I might have demanded it with interest
. And he said to those that stood before him, Take the pound from him, and give it to him who has the ten pounds
. They say to him, Master, there are already ten pounds with him
. He said to them, I tell you, that to every one that has, more will be given, and from him that has not, even what he has will be taken away
. But as for those my enemies, who would not have me rule over them, bring them and kill them in front of me
. And when Jesus had spoken these things, he went on ahead, to go to Jerusalem
, And when he approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount called the place of Olives, he sent two of his disciples
and said to them, Go over to the village across from us, and as you enter, you will find a colt tethered, on which no man has ever rode, untie it and bring it here
. And if any man asks you, Why do you untie it ?, say to him, Our Master needs it
. And they who were sent found it just as he said it to them
? And as they untied the colt, the owner of it said to them, Why do you untie that colt
. And they said, Because our Master needs it
. And they brought it to Jesus. And they tossed their cloaks upon the colt, and set Jesus upon it
. And as he went, they spread their cloaks in the path
And when he came near the edge of the place of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice, and praise God, with a loud voice, for all the impressive feats which they witnessed
. And they said, Blessed be he, that comes as king, in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high
. And some of the Pharisees from among the crowd, said to him, Rabbi, reprimand your disciples
. He said to them, I tell you, that if they should keep quiet, the stones would cry out
, And as he came near sight of the city, he shed tears over it
. and said, Oh, had you only understood the message of peace at least on this day, but now it is hidden from your eyes
. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will surround you, and besiege you on every side
And they will destroy you and your children within your walls, and leave not one stone standing on top another, for you knew not the time of your opportunity
. And when he entered the temple, he began to evict those who bought and sold in it
. And he said to them, It is written, My house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves
. And he taught daily in the temple, and the high priests and scribes and elders of the people, sought to do away with him
. But they could not find a way to carry this out, for all the people clung on him to listen to him

Chapter 20

And on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching, the high priests and scribes, with the elders, came upon him
? and said to him, Tell us, by what authority do you do these things? And who is it that granted you this authority
. Jesus answered, and said to them, I also will ask you a question, and you tell me
? The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men
? And they argued amongst themselves, and said, If we say, From heaven, he will say to us, And why did you not believe him
. But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us, for they believe that John was a prophet
. And they said to him, We do not know from where it was
. Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you, by what authority I do these things
And he began to utter this parable to the people, A certain man planted a vineyard, and leased it to tenants, and went abroad for a long time
And in time, he sent his servant to the tenants, that they might give him of the fruits of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him, and sent him away with nothing
. And again he sent another servant, and they also beat him, and treated rudely, and sent away with nothing
. And again he sent the third. And they wounded him, and threw him out
. The master of the vineyard said, What should I do? I will send my dear son. Perhaps they will look upon him, and be ashamed
But when the tenants saw him, they argued amongst themselves, and said, This is his heir, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours
? And they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them
He will come, and destroy those tenants, and will lease the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, This should not happen
And he looked upon them, and said, What is that which is written? It was the stone which the builders rejected, that became the main corner stone
. And whoever shall fall upon this stone, will be broken, and on whosoever it shall fall, it will crush him in pieces
And the high priests and Scribes sought to lay hands on him, at that time, but they were afraid of the people, for they knew that this parable he spoke was aimed at them
And they sent spies to him, who posed themselves as devoted men, that they might ensnare him in sermon, and deliver him up to a court, and to the authority of the governor
And they questioned him, and said to him, Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and favor no person, but teach the way of God honestly
? Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not
? But he perceived their craftiness, and said, Why do you test me
. Show me a denarius. Whose is this image and inscription on it? They said to him, Caesar's
. Jesus said to them, Then, give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's
. And they could not ensnare a word of his before the public, and they were surprised at his answers, and were silent
, And some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came and questioned him
and said to him, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, that if a man's brother die, who had a wife without children, his brother shall take his wife, and raise the line of his brother
. Now, there were seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and died without children
. And the second took her to wife, and he died without children
. And again, the third took her, and in like manner also all the seven, and they died, and left no children
. At last, the woman died so, as well
? In the resurrection, therefore, of which of them will she be wife to, for the seven took her
. Jesus said to them, The children of this world take wives, and wives are given to husbands
. But they who are worthy of that world, and of the resurrection from the dead, do not take wives, nor are wives given to husbands
. Neither can they die any more, for they are as the angels, and are the children of God, because they are children of the resurrection
But that the dead will arise, even Moses showed, for at the bush, he mentioned, while he said, The Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob
. Now God is not the God of the dead, but of the Living, for they all live to him
. And some of the scribes answered, and said to him, Teacher, you have spoken well
. And they did not again venture to question him, on any matter
? And he said also to them, How do the scribes speak of the Messiah, that he is the son of David
, And David himself said, in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, seat yourself at my right hand
. until I shall place your enemies under your feet
? If David, therefore, called him, My Lord, how is he his son
, And while all the people heard, he said to his disciples
Beware of the scribes, who choose to walk in long robes, and love a greeting of respect in the streets, and the front seats in the synagogues, and the beats seats at banquets

. who eat up the households of widows, that they prolong their prayers for pretence. They will receive a more severe sentence

Chapter 21

. And Jesus looked upon the wealthy, who threw their offerings into the treasury
. And he saw also a certain poor widow, who threw in two coins
. And he said, Truly I say to you, that this poor widow has thrown in more than any one
For all they, from what was left over to them, have thrown into the house of offerings to God, but she, from her purse, has thrown in all that she had
, And when some spoke of the temple, as adorned with goodly stones and offerings, Jesus said to them
As for these things on which you gaze, the days will come, in which there will not be left a stone on top a stone, that has not fallen down
? And they questioned him, and said, Teacher, when will these things be? And what is the sign that they are near to take place
And he said to them, See, that you be not deceived, for many will come in my name, and will say, I am Messiah and the time is near. But do not follow them
. And when you should hear of wars and riots, be not afraid, for these things are to take place prior, but the end is not yet come
, For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom
and great earthquakes will happen in various places, and famines, and plagues, and there will be horrors, and apprehensions, and mighty signs from heaven will be observed, and there will be severe winters
But before all these things, they will arrest you, and will persecute you, and will deliver you up to courts and to prison, and you will arraigned before kings and governors, on account of my name
. But it will be you who bears witness
. And be your hearts set, that you not seek prior instruction how to put up a defense.
. For I will give you a eloquence and wisdom, which all your opponents will be unable to resist
. And your parents, and your brothers, and your relatives, and your friends, will hand you over, and have some of you put to death
. And you will be hated by every one, on account of my name
. But not a hair of your head will be lost
. And by your patience, will you save your souls
And when you should see Jerusalem with an army surrounding it, then know, that its destruction draws near
Then let them who should be in Judaea, escape to the mountains, and let them, who are inside of them, escape away, and those in the fields, not enter it
. For these are days of retribution, to fulfill all that is written
But woe to them that are with child, and to them that suckle children, in those days, for then will be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people
And they will fall by the blade of the sword, and be carried captive to every region. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans, until the era of the pagans shall be finished
And there will be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars, and anguish of nations on the earth, and anticipating, distraught from the roaring of the sea
. and men dying of fear, from fear of that which is to come on the earth, and the powers of heaven will be shaken
. And then will they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds, with great power, and glory
. And when these things should start , be brave, and hold your heads high, for your liberation draws near
. And he told them a parable. Look at the fig tree, and all the trees
. When they bud forth, you at once understand from them that summer approaches
. So also, when you should see all these things take place, know that the Realm of God is close
. Truly I say to you, That this generation will not pass away, until all these things happen
. The sky and earth will pass away, but my word will never pass
Watch yourselves, that your hearts never be coarsened by debauchery and drunkenness and worldly cares, and so that day come upon you unaware
. For, like a hunter's trap, it will come down upon all them that dwell upon the face of the whole land
Be vigilant, at all times, and prayerful, that you may be worthy to evade the things that are to unfold, and may stand before the Son of Man
. And, in the day he taught at the temple, and at night he went out and stayed on the mount, called the Place of Olives
. And all the people arrived early in the temple, to hear his sermon

Chapter 22

. And the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, drew near
. And the high priests and scribes sought how they might slay him, but they were afraid of the people
. And Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was one of the number of twelve
. And he went and discussed with the high priests and scribes, and the officers of the temple, how he was to betray him
. And they were delighted, and agreed to give him money
. And he accepted them, and sought an opportunity how to betray him to them, away from the crowd
. And the day of unleavened bread arrived, on which it was customary for the Passover [lamb] to be slain
. And Jesus sent Kephas and John, and said to them, Go, prepare for us the Passover, so we may eat it
? And they said to him, Where do you want us to prepare it
, He said to them, When you enter the city, there a man will meet you, carrying a water jar. Follow him
? and where he enters, say to the master of the house, Our Master says, Is there a guest room, in which I may eat the Passover with my disciples
. And he will show you a spacious room upstairs that is furnished, prepare it there
. And they went, and found it as he said to them, and they made ready the Passover
. And when the time arrived, Jesus came and sat, and the twelve Apostles with him
. And he said to them, I have longed to eat this Passover with you, before I suffer
. For I say to you, That from here on I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the Realm of God
. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and share it among you
. For I say to you, That I shall not drink the fruit of the vine, until the Realm of God shall come
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave to to them, and said, This is my body which will be given for you. Do this, in remembrance of me
. And he did the same with the cup, after they ate, he said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you
. And yet, the hand of him that betrays me is on the table
. And the Son of Man goes, as it was appointed, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed
. And they began to question among themselves, which of them would do this
. And there was a dispute among them, who among them would be greater
. And Jesus said to them, The kings lord over their nations, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors
. But not so you, but rather he that is great among you, must be as the youngest, and he that is leader as the one that serves
. For, which is the greater, he that sits, or he that serves? Is not he that sits? But I am among you as he that serves
, You are the ones who have continued with me thru my trials
, and I promise to you, as my Father has promised to me, a kingdom
. that you may eat and drink at the table of my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel
, And Jesus said to Simon; Simon, Satan has desired to sift you as wheat
. but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And later you also, in turn, strengthen your brothers
. And Simon said to him, My Master, with you I am ready both for prison and for death
. Jesus said to him, I tell you, Simon, the cock will not crow this day, until you have denied three times that you know me
. And he said to them, When I sent you without purses, without wallets and shoes, did you lack any thing? They said to him, Nothing
He said to them, From here on, let him that has a purse, take it, and so likewise a satchel. And let him that has no sword, sell his cloak, and buy a sword
For I say to you, That this which was written, must also be fulfilled in me, He let himself be taken for a criminal. For, all that relates to me, will be fulfilled
. And they said to him, Our Master, here are two swords. He said to them, They are enough
. And he went and made his customary way to the mount of the place of Olives, and his disciples followed him
. And when he arrived at the place, he said to them, Pray that you not be put to test
, And he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw, and kneeled down, and prayed
. and said, Father, if it please you, let this cup pass from me. Yet, not my will, but Your's, be done
. And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, who strengthened him
. And in anguish, he prayed earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood, and it fell on the ground
. And he arose from his prayer, and came to his disciples, and he found them sleeping, for sheer grief
. And he said to them, Why sleep you? Get up, and pray not to be put to the test
And while he spoke, a crowd came and one of the twelve, the one called Judas, was at the head of them. And he came up to Jesus, and kissed him. For he had given them this sign, Whom I shall kiss, it is he
? Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss
? And when they with him saw what happened, they said to him, Our Master, should we strike them with the sword
. And one of them struck a servant of the high priest, and took off his right ear
. And Jesus answered and said, That will do, leave off. And he touched the ear of him that was stricken, and healed him
And Jesus said to those who had come upon him, the high priests and elders and officers of the temple: Have you come out for me as against a bandit, with swords and with clubs, to take me
. I was with you daily in the temple, and you did not lay hands upon me. But this is your hour, and the reign of darkness
. And they took him, and led him to the house of the high priest. And Simon followed after him, from a distance
. And they started a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and sat around it, and Simon also sat among them
. And a servant girl saw him sitting at the fire, and she looked upon him, and said, This man also was with him
. But he denied it, and said, Woman, I do not know him
. And a little after, another one saw him, and said to him, You too are one of them. And Kephas said, I am not
. And an hour after, someone else saw him and said, Certainly, this man also was with him, why, he is a Galilean
. Kephas said, Man, I know not what you say. And immediately, while he was speaking, the cock crowed
And Jesus turned, and looked upon Kephas. And Simon remembered the word of our Lord, which he spoke to him, Before the cock shall crow, you will deny me three times
. And Simon went outside, and wept bitterly
, And the men who had taken Jesus, insulted him, and blindfolded him
? and struck him on his face, and said, Play the prophet, who struck you
And many other things they insultingly uttered, and spoke towards him.
, And when the day dawned, the elders and high priests and scribes gathered together, and they led him to the place of their assembly
. and said to him, If you are the Messiah, tell us. He said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe in me
. And if I should ask you, you will not return me an answer, not that it will free me from you
. From now on, the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the majesty of God
. And they all said, You are then, the Son of God? Jesus said to them, It is you who say I am
. They say, What need further have we of witnesses? For we have heard from his very mouth

Chapter 23

. And the whole assembly of them got up, and brought him before Pilate
And they began to accuse him, and said, We have found this man inciting our people, and opposing the payment of the tribute money to Caesar, and announcing himself to be king Messiah
. And Pilate questioned him, and said to him, Are you king of the Jews ? He said to him, It is you who says it
. And Pilate said to the high priests and the group, I find no crime upon this man
. And they persisted, and said, He is inflaming the people, by teaching in all Judaea, starting from Galilee, down to here
. And Pilate, when he heard the name Galilee, inquired if the man were a Galilean
. And having learned that he was from under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, for he was at Jerusalem on those days
And Herod was delighted when he saw Jesus, for he had been wanting to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him, and he hoped to see some sign from him
. And he asked him many questions, but Jesus gave no reply
. And the high priests and scribes stood up, and violently accused him
. And Herod and his soldiers showed contempt to him. And when he had mocked him, he clothed him in a purple robe, and sent him to Pilate
. And on that day, Pilate and Herod became as friends to each other, for there had previously been discord between them
, And Pilate called the high priests and the rulers of the people
and said to them, You have brought this man before me, as a agitator of your people, and I have examined him before you, and I find no case in the man, among all that you charge him with
. Neither did Herod, for I sent him to him, and nothing deserving death has been done by him
. I will therefore have him scourged, and release him
. For it was a custom, that he should release one at the festival
. And all the crowd shouted back, and said, Away with this man, and give us BarAbbas
. He was one who had been thrown into prison, on account of a sedition and murder which had happened in the city
. And Pilate, being disposed to release Jesus, discussed with them again
! But they shout out, and said, Crucify him, crucify him
And he said to them the third time, But, what evil has he done? I find no crime in him deserving of death. I will have him flogged, therefore, and release him
. But they kept shouting, demanding that he should be crucified
. And Pilate finally decreed, that their request be granted
And he released to them him, who for sedition and murder had been cast into prison and who they asked for, and he handed over Jesus to them for as they please
. And as they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, coming from the fields, and shouldered him with the cross, to carry it behind Jesus
. And there followed after him a great crowd of people, and those women, too, who wailed and lamented over him
And Jesus turned to them, and said to them, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep instead for yourselves, and for your children
. For the days are coming, in which they will say, Happy the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed
! Then will they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us! and to the hills, Cover us
? For if they use green wood like this, what will be when it is dry
. And there went along with him two others, criminals, to be crucified
And when they came to a certain place which is called a Skull, they crucified him there, and the two criminals, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left
. And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided his garments, casting lots upon them
And the people stood and looked on, and the leaders also ridiculed him, and said, He saved others, let him save himself, if he is the Messiah, the chosen of God

. And there, too, was an inscription over him, written in Greek, and Latin, and Hebraic, This Is The King Of The Jews
And one of the criminals who were crucified with him, mocked him, and said, If you are the Messiah, save yourself, and save us
? t his fellow criminal reprimanded him, said to him, Have you no fear of God at all, seeing you got the same sentence
. And we deservedly, for we are paying for our actions, and according to our deeds, but nothing wrong has been done by him
. And he said to Jesus, My Lord, remember me, when you come into your Realm
. Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, That this day you shall be with me in paradise
. And it was around the sixth hour, and darkness was over all the land, until the ninth hour
. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn through its middle
. And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and said, My Father, into your hands I place my spirit. He said this, and it was Done
. And when the centurion saw what had taken place, he glorified God and said, Certainly, this was a righteous man.
. And all the crowds who had gathered at this spectacle, on seeing what happened, returned, beating their breasts
And they stood at a distance, all those that knew Jesus, and also the women who came with him from Galilee, and they saw these things
And there a man, whose name was Joseph, a council member, from Ramtha, a city of Judaea, who was a good man and just
. and he had not consented to their scheme and deeds, and he was waiting for the Realm of God
. This man went to Pilate, and pleaded for the body of Jesus

And on the first day of the week, at dawn, while still dark, they went to the tomb with the herbs they had prepared. And other women were with them

, He is not here, he is risen. Remember what he told you, when he was in Galilee

. And they recalled his words
. And they returned from the tomb, and reported all these things to the eleven, and to the rest

And these words sounded like visions, and they did not believe them

? And he said to them, What are these matters, which you say to each other, as you walk and are sad

. But we hoped that he was to set Israel free. And three days have passed, since all these things happened

, And moreover, certain women of ours astounded us, for they went early to the tomb

. Then Jesus said to them, O lacking in understanding, and slow to believe all the things that the prophets foretold

. And they urged him, and said to him, Stay with us, for it is nearly evening. And he went in to stay with them

? And they said one to another, Did not our hearts burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and explained to us the scriptures

. And while they were talking of these things, Jesus stood among them, and said to them, Peace be with you! It is I, do not be afraid
. And they were startled and afraid, for they thought they were seeing a ghost

. Look at my hands and my feet, that it is myself. Touch me and know, for a ghost has not flesh and bones, as you see I have
. And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet
? And while they still did not believe, due to their joy and astonishment, he said to them, Have you anything here to eat
. And they gave him a piece of grilled fish, and honeycomb
. And he took and ate it in front of them

. And you are the witnesses to this
