, And as Jesus entered Jericho, and passed through it
2
, there was a man, whose name was Zaccheus, who was
wealthy, and head of the tax collectors
3
. and he wished to see Jesus, what he was like, and could not, on
account of the crowd, because Zaccheus was small in stature
4
. And he ran ahead of Jesus, and climbed a wild fig
tree, in order to see him, for he was to pass that way
5
. And when Jesus came to that place, and saw him, and said to him,
Come down quickly, Zaccheus, for I must be at your house today
6
. And he quickly came down, and greeted him with gladness
7
. And when they all observed it, they murmured, and
said, He has gone in to be guest with a man that is a sinner
8
. And Zaccheus stood tall and said to Jesus, My Lord, half of my riches I give to the poor, and to
any man who I have wronged
in any matter, I payback fourfold
9
. Jesus said to him, This day salvation has come to this house, for he also
is a son of Abraham
10
. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was
lost
11
And while they heard these things, he went on to
tell a
parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Realm of God was to soon
unfold
12
. And he said, A certain man of high birth was going
to a distant region, to become royalty, and return again
13
. And when called his ten servants, and gave them sums
of ten pounds, and he said to them, Use these until I return
14
. But the citizens of his city hated him, and they sent envoys
after him, saying, We wish this man not to rule us
15
And when he had obtained the royalty, and had returned, he
ordered those servants to be called, who he had entrusted his money,
that he might learn of how each of them had profited
16
. And the first came, and said, My master, your pound
has earned ten
pounds
17
. He said to him, Well done, good servant! As you have
been faithful over a little, you shall take over ten towns
18
. And the second came, and said, My master, your pound
has earned
five pounds
19
. He said likewise to him, You also shall take over
five towns
20
. And another came, and said, My master, here is your
pound, which I kept, stored in fine linen
21
For I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man, and
withdraw that which you did not deposit, and reap that which you did not
sow
22
He said to him, Out of your own mouth will I condemn you,
you vile servant. You knew that I am a hard man, that I withdraw what
I did not deposit, and reap what I did not sow
23
? Why did you not put my money into the broker's hands, that
when I returned, I might have demanded it with interest
24
. And he said to those that stood before him, Take the
pound from him, and give it to him who has the ten pounds
25
. They say to him, Master, there are already ten
pounds with him
26
. He said to them, I tell you, that to every one that
has, more will
be given, and from him that has not, even what he has will be taken away
27
. But as for those my enemies, who would not have me
rule over
them, bring them and kill them in front of me
28
. And when Jesus had spoken these things, he went on
ahead, to go
to Jerusalem
29
, And when he approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount
called the place of Olives, he sent two of his disciples
30
and said to them, Go over to the village across from us,
and as you enter, you will find a colt tethered, on which no man has ever rode,
untie it and bring it here
31
. And if any man asks you, Why do you untie it ?, say to
him, Our Master needs it
32
. And they who were sent found it just as he said it to them
33
? And as they untied the colt, the owner of it said to them, Why
do you untie that colt
34
. And they said, Because our Master needs it
35
. And they brought it to Jesus. And they tossed their
cloaks upon the colt, and set Jesus upon it
36
. And as he went, they spread their cloaks in the path
37
And when he came near the edge of the place of Olives, the
whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice, and praise God, with a loud
voice, for all the impressive feats which they witnessed
38
. And they said, Blessed be he, that comes as king, in
the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high
39
. And some of the Pharisees from among the crowd, said to him,
Rabbi, reprimand your disciples
40
. He said to them, I tell you, that if they should
keep quiet,
the stones would cry out
41
, And as he came near sight of the city, he shed tears
over it
42
. and said, Oh, had you only understood the message of peace at
least on this day, but now it is hidden from your eyes
43
. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies
will surround you, and besiege you on every side
44
And they will destroy you and your children within
your walls, and
leave not one stone standing on top another, for you knew not the time of your
opportunity
45
. And when he entered the temple, he began to evict those who
bought and sold in it
46
. And he said to them, It is written, My house is a house of
prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves
47
. And he taught daily in the temple, and the high priests and
scribes and elders of the people, sought to do away with him
48
. But they could not find a way to carry this out, for all the
people clung on him to listen to him
And on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the
temple, and preaching, the high priests and scribes, with the elders, came
upon him
2
? and said to him, Tell us, by what authority do you
do these things? And who is it that granted you this authority
3
. Jesus answered, and said to them, I also will ask you a
question,
and you tell me
4
? The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men
5
? And they argued amongst themselves, and said, If we say, From
heaven, he will say to us, And why did you not believe him
6
. But if we say, From men, all the people will stone
us, for they believe that John was a prophet
7
. And they said to him, We do not know from where it
was
8
. Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you, by what authority I
do these things
9
And he began to utter this parable to the people, A certain
man planted a vineyard, and leased it to tenants, and went abroad for a
long time
10
And in time, he sent his servant to the tenants, that they
might give him of the fruits of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him,
and sent him away with nothing
11
. And again he sent another servant, and they also beat him, and treated rudely, and sent away with nothing
12
. And again he sent the third. And they wounded him, and
threw him
out
13
. The master of the vineyard said, What should I do? I will send my
dear son. Perhaps they will look upon him, and be ashamed
14
But when the tenants saw him, they argued amongst
themselves, and said, This is his heir, let us kill him, and the inheritance will
be ours
15
? And they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What
then will the lord of the vineyard do to them
16
He will come, and destroy those tenants, and will lease the
vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, This should not
happen
17
And he looked upon them, and said, What is that which is
written? It was the stone which the builders rejected, that became the main corner
stone
18
. And whoever shall fall upon this stone, will be broken, and on
whosoever it shall fall, it will crush him in pieces
19
And the high priests and Scribes sought to lay hands on him, at
that time, but they were afraid of the people, for they knew that this
parable he spoke was aimed at them
20
And they sent spies to him, who posed themselves as
devoted
men, that they might ensnare him in sermon, and deliver him up to a
court, and to the authority of the governor
21
And they questioned him, and said to him, Teacher, we
know that you speak and teach correctly, and favor no person, but teach the way of God
honestly
22
? Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not
23
? But he perceived their craftiness, and said, Why do
you test me
24
. Show me a denarius. Whose is this image and inscription
on
it? They said to him, Caesar's
25
. Jesus said to them, Then, give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and
to God what is God's
26
. And they could not ensnare a word of his before
the public, and they were surprised at his answers, and were silent
27
, And some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection,
came and questioned him
28
and said to him, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, that if a man's
brother die, who had a wife without children, his brother shall
take his wife, and raise the line of his brother
29
. Now, there were seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and
died without children
30
. And the second took her to wife, and he died without children
31
. And again, the third took her, and in like manner
also all the seven, and they died, and left no children
32
. At last, the woman died so, as well
33

And while he spoke, a crowd came and one of the

and kissed him. For he had given them this sign, Whom I shall kiss, it is he
48

and elders and officers of the temple: Have you come out for me
as against a bandit, with swords and with clubs, to take me
53

And Jesus turned, and looked upon Kephas. And Simon
remembered the word of our Lord, which he spoke to him, Before the cock shall
crow, you will deny me three times
62
. And Simon went outside, and wept bitterly
63

68
