Chapter 9

And he said to them: Truly I say to you, There are some standing here, who will not taste of death, until they shall see the Realm of God established in power
. And after six days, Jesus took just Kephas, and James, and John, and led them away to a high mountain; and was transfigured before them
. And his clothes became a very bright white, like snow, so much so as men on earth are unable to make such white
. And to them there appeared Moses and Elijah, in conversation with Jesus
And Kephas said to him: Master, it is good for us to remain here, let us make three booths; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah
. But he did not know what he was saing, for they were in awe
. And there was a cloud, and it overshadowed them. And from the cloud came a voice, which said: This is my beloved Son. Listen to him
. And then, when the disciples looked up, they saw no one with them, except Jesus alone
. And as they went down the mountain, he commanded them to tell no man what they had seen, until after the Son of Man shall be raised from the dead
" And they kept these words in their mind; and thought, What do these words mean: " When he shall be raised from the dead !
? And they asked him, and said: Why then do the scribes claim that Elijah must come first
. He said to them: Elijah will come first, to restore every thing: and, as it is written of the Son of Man, he will suffer much, and be despised
. But I say to you: That Elijah has come; and they have done to him all that they wanted, as it was written of him
. And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great crowd with them, and the scribes debating with them
. And immediately the crowd saw him, and were surprised: and they ran and greeted him
? And he asked the scribes: What were you debating with them
. And one of the crowd replied, and said: Teacher, I have brought to you my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute
And wherever he seizes  him, he shakes and tears him: and he gnashes his teeth, and wastes away. And I spoke to your disciples, to cast him out; and they could not
. Jesus answered, and said to them: O unbelieving lot ! How long shall I be with you ? how long must I endure you ? Bring him to me
. And they brought him to him. And when the spirit saw him, he immediately shook him; and he fell upon the ground, and convulsed
. And Jesus asked his father, how long a time he had been so. He said to him: Alas, from childhood
And many times it has thrown him into the fire, and into the water, if to kill him. But, if you can do any thing for us and have compassion on me
. Jesus said to him: If you can believe; every thing can be, to him that believes
. And immediately the father of the child cried out, while he wept and said: I believe; help but my lack faith
And when Jesus saw that the people were rapidly gathering around him, he reprimanded the unclean spirit, and said to him: You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him; and enter him no more
. And the demon shouted out, and convulsed him, and came out. And he was as a corpse; so that many would say, he is dead
. And Jesus took him by the hand, and got him up
? And when Jesus entered the house, his disciples asked him privately: Why could we not cast him out
. He said to them: This kind you can drive out by nothing but fasting and prayer
. And when he left from there, they passed through Galilee: and he wanted that no one might recognize him
For he taught his disciples, and said to them: The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will put him to death; and after his death, on the third day, he will rise
. But they did not understand his words; and they were afraid to ask him
? And they came to Capernaum. And when they entered the house, he asked them: What discussed you among yourselves along the way
. And they were silent; for along the way they had argued with one another, which should be the greater among them
. And Jesus sat down, and called the twelve, and said to them: Whoever would be first, let him be last of all, and servant to all
: And he took a child, and set him in their midst, and took him in his arms and said to them
. Whoever receives one in my name, like this child, he receives me; and he that receives me, receives not me alone, but him that sent me
. John said to him: Master, we saw one casting out demons in your name, and we stopped him, because he does not follow with us
. Jesus said to them: Stop him not; for there is no one who does miracles in my name, who can readily speak evil of me also
. Whoever is not against you, is for you
For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink, only on the grounds that you are Messiah's followers, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward
And whoever shall cause one of these little ones that believes in me to stumble, it were better for him if a millstone were put to his neck, and he fell into the sea
; And if your hand makes you offend, cut it off: better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands, to go into hell
. where the worm dies not, and the fire is not extinguished
; And if your foot makes you offend, cut it off: better for you to enter into life lame, than having two feet, to fall into hell
. where the worm dies not, and the fire is not extinguished
And if your eye makes you offend, pluck it out: better for you to enter with one eye into the Realm of God, than having two eyes, to fall into the hell of fire
. where the worm dies not, and the fire is not extinguished
. For every thing will be salted with fire; and every sacrifice will be salted with salt
Salt is a good thing: but if the salt become tasteless, with of what will it be salted ? Let there be salt in you: and be you in peace, one with another

Chapter 10

And he left from there, and came to the border of Judaea, on the other side the Jordan. And great crowds came to him there; and again he instructed them, as he was accustomed
. And the Pharisees came to him, and, testing him, inquired if it were permitted for a man to divorce his wife
? He said to them: What did Moses command you
. They said: Moses permitted us to write a decree of divorce, and send her away
. Jesus answered and said to them: On account of your stubborn heart, Moses wrote you this commandment
. But, from the beginning, God made them male and female
: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife
. and they two shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are not of two, but one flesh
. What therefore God has joined, let not man separate
. And in the house, again the disciples asked him of this matter
. And he said to them: Whoever shall divorce his wife, and marries another, commits adultery
. And if a woman shall leave her husband, and marry another, she commits adultery
. And they brought little children to him, that he might touch them. But his disciples reprimanded those who brought them
And when Jesus saw it, he was indignant; and he said to them, Let little children to come to me, and hinder them not; for of those like them is the Realm of God
. Truly I say to you, That whoever does not receive the Realm of God, like a little child, shall not enter it
. And he took them in his arms, and laying his hand on them, blessed them
? And as he walked away, one ran and fell to his knees, and asked him, and said: Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life
. Jesus said to him: Why do you call me good? There is none good, but God alone
You know the commandments; you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not kill, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not deceive; honor your father and your mother.
. And he answered, and said to him: Teacher, all these have I kept since my childhood
And Jesus looked on him with love, and said to him: One thing you lack. Go, sell all that you possess, and give to the poor, and there will be a treasure for you in heaven; and take your cross, and follow me
. And he was saddened by those words, and went away with sorrow: for he had great wealth
! And Jesus looked upon his disciples, and said to them: How hard for those who have wealth, to enter into the Realm of God
And the disciples were astounded at the remark. And Jesus, replied again, and said to them: My children, how hard it is, for those who trust in wealth to enter into the Realm of God
. It is easier for a rope [made of camel hair] to enter the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy man to enter the Realm of God
! And they were astonished even more, and said among themselves: Who can be saved
. And Jesus looked on them again, and said to them: With men, this is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible
. And Kephas began to say: We have left every thing to follow you
Jesus answered and said: Truly I say to you, there is no man that leaves houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or wife or children, for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel
who will not receive a hundredfold, houses, and brothers and sisters, and mothers and children, and lands, not without persecution, now in the present age, and, in the world to come, eternal life
. But many come first, who will be last; and last, will come first
And as they were on the way to Jerusalem, Jesus walked ahead of them: and they were awed, and yet afraid. And he took his twelve, and began to tell them what was to happen to him
Behold, we are going to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be handed over to the high priests and the Scribes; and they will condemn him to die, and will hand him over to the Gentiles
. And they will mock him, and will scourge him, and will spit in his face, and will kill him; and on the third day he will arise
. And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him, and said to him: Teacher, we want that you would do for us all what we ask
? He said to them: What would you for I to do for you
. They say to him: Grant us, that one may sit on your right hand, and the other on your left, in your glory
But he said to them: You know not what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I am to drink ? and to be baptized with the baptism, that I am to be baptized with
They say to him: We are able. Jesus said to them: The cup that I drink, you will drink, and the baptism that I am baptized with, you will be baptized with
. But that you should sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, it is for those to whom it is reserved
. And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards James and John
And Jesus called them, and said to them: You know, that they who are heads of the nations, that lord over men, make their authority felt
. But it shall not be so among you: but he that would be great among you, must be a servant to you
. And he of you that aspires to be first, must be servant to every one
. And also the Son of Man came, not to be served, but to serve; and to give his  life in ransom for many
And they came to Jericho. And as Jesus went out of Jericho, he and his disciples and a great crowd; a blind man, Timeus, the son of Timeus, was sitting by the side of the way, and begging
. And he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene; and he began to call out, and to say: You, Son of David, have pity on me
. And many reprimanded him, that he might be quiet. But he called out even more, and said: You, Son of David, have pity on me
. And Jesus stood, and ordered him to be called over. And they called the blind man over, and said to him: Be brave: get up, he calls you
. And the blind man cast aside his cloak and got up, and went to Jesus
. Jesus said to him: What is that you want I do for you ? And the blind man said to him: Master, that I may have sight
. And Jesus said to him: Go; your faith has healed you. And immediately his sight was restored; and he followed after him

Chapter 11

, And as they approached Jerusalem, by Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples
and said to them: Go you to the village that is over before us, and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied, on which no person has rode: untie it, and bring him here
. And, if any one say to you, Why do you this ? Say you to him: Because our Master has need of it. And he will soon return it there
, And they went, and they found the colt tied, by the door, outside in the street. And as they were untying it
? some of those standing there, said to them: For what do you untie the colt
. And they said to them, as Jesus had told them; and they allowed them
. And they brought the colt to Jesus, and threw their cloaks upon him, and set Jesus upon it
. And many spread their cloaks in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and laid them in the way
. And those ahead of him, and those following him shouted and said: Hosanna: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord
. And blessed is the kingdom of our father David to come. Hosanna in the highest
. And Jesus entered Jerusalem and the temple, and viewed every thing. And when evening came, he went out to Bethany with the twelve
: And the following day, as he left Bethany, he felt hungry
and he saw a fig tree some distance off, on which were leaves, and he came to it, if he could find anything on it. And when he reached it, he found on it only leaves; for it was not the time for figs
. And he said to it: From here on and forever, let no man eat fruit from you: and the disciples heard it. And they came to Jerusalem
And Jesus entered the temple of God: and he began to evict those who bought and sold in the temple; and he overturned the counters of the money brokers, and the seats of those that sold doves
. And he told none of them to carry goods through the temple
And he taught them, and said: Is it not written, My house shall be called the house of prayer for all peoples ? But you have made it a den of thieves
And the high priests and the scribes heard it, and they sought how they might do away with him; for they were afraid of him, because all the people admired his teachings
. And when evening came, they went out from the city
. And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up, as it were, to its roots
. And Simon remembered, and said to him: Master; look, the fig tree which you cursed, is dried up
. And in reply, Jesus said to them: Have faith in God
Truly I say to you, That whoever shall say to this mountain, Be removed, and fall into the sea; and has no doubts in his heart, but shall believe that what he said will happen, to him will be done what he spoke
Therefore I say to you, That whatsoever you shall pray and ask for, believe that it will be so, and so it will be for you.
. And when you stand up to pray, forgive what you may hold toward anyone; that your Father who is in heaven may also forgive you in return
. For if you do not forgive, your Father also who is in heaven will not forgive you in return
, And they returned to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the high priests and scribes and elders came to him
? and said to him: By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you the authority to do these things
. And Jesus said to them: I also will ask you a question, that you may tell me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things
. The baptism of John, from where was it ? from heaven, or from men ? Tell me
? And they thought to themselves, and said: If we should say to him, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did you not put faith in him
. But if we should say, From men; there is reason to fear the people; for they have all held John to be truly a prophet
. And they answered, and said to Jesus: We do not know. He said to them: Then neither will I tell you by what authority I do the things I do

Chapter 12

And he began to address them again in parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and enclosed it with a hedge, and dug out a wine vat, and built a tower there, and leased it to the hands of tenant farmers, and went on a journey
.And in due time, he sent his servant to the tenant farmers, to receive his share from the vineyard
. And they beat him, and sent him away without
. And again he sent to them another servant; and they stoned him also, and wounded him, and sent him away shamefully
. And again he sent another; and they killed him. And he sent other servants, many of whom they beat, and some they killed
. At last, having no one but his dear son, he sent him to them ; for he said, Perhaps they will respect my son
. But those tenant farmers said among themselves: This is the heir; then, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours
. And they took him, and killed him, and dragged him outside of the vineyard
. What therefore will the master of the vineyard do ? He will come and destroy those tenant farmers, and turn over the vineyard to others
: And have you not read this scripture, The stone which the builders rejected, has become the keystone of the corner
? For it was the Lord who did this; and it is not wonderful to behold
And they sought to arrest him, but had fear of the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable about them. And they left him and went off
. And they sent to him some of the scribes and of the household of Herod, to entrap him in sermon
And these came, and asked him: Teacher; we know that you are truthful, and have no fear of man; for you regard not the opinions of men, but teach the way of  God in truth. Is it permitted to give tribute tax to Caesar; or not ? Shall we give it, or not give
. And he knew their wile, and said to them: Why test you me ? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it
. And they brought him one. And he said to them: Whose is this image and inscription ? They said to him: Caesar's
. Jesus said to them: What is Caesar's, give unto Caesar; and what is God's, give unto to God. And they were in awe of him
: Then came to him Sadducees, who hold that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, and said
Teacher ; Moses wrote to us, that if a man's brother die, and leaves a widow, but leaves no children, his brother shall take his widow, and she raise up the line of this brother
. There were seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died, and left no line
. And the second took her, and died, and he also left no line: and the third in like manner
. And the seven took her, and left no line. Lastly, the woman also died
. In the resurrection, therefore, of which one will she be the wife ? For all the seven married her
? Jesus said to them: Is it on this account that you are misled, because you understand not the scriptures, nor the power of God
. For when they rise from the dead, they neither take wives, nor are wives given to husbands; but they are as the angels that are in heaven
But as for the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in that about the bush, how God said: I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob
. He is the God of the living, not of the dead. You, therefore, are greatly misled
And one of the scribes came, and heard them as they argued, and he saw how skillfully he answered them; and he asked him, Which is the first of all the commandments
: Jesus said to him: The first of all the commandments is: Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is Lord alone
and you shall love the Lord your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your might. This is the first commandment
. And this is the second: You shall love your neighbor, as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these
. The scribe said to him: Excellent ! Master; you have spoken the truth; for he is the One, and there is no other beside him
And for a man to love him, with all the heart, and with all the mind, and with all the soul, and with all the might; and to love his neighbor, as himself; is better than any burnt offering or sacrifice
And Jesus approved that he replied insightfully; and he answered, and said to him: You are not far from the Realm of God. And no one had courage again to question him
? And as Jesus was teaching in the temple, he answered and said: How can the scribes say, that the Messiah is David's son
For David himself said, by the Holy Spirit:  The Lord said to my Lord; Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool beneath you
David therefore called him " My Lord " and now, how can he be his son ? And all the crowd heard him with delight
, And he said to them in his teaching: Beware of the scribes, who parade in long robes, and accept the greetings of respect in the streets
. and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best seats at banquets
. They devour the savings of widows, and they prolong their prayers for appearances. These will receive a severe condemnation
. And as Jesus sat across from the treasury-room, he saw how the crowd cast coins into the treasury. And many wealthy ones cast in many
. And a poor widow came, and cast in two copper coins, which are worth nearly nothing
. And Jesus called his disciples, and said to them: Truly I say to you, That this poor widow has cast into the treasury more than all they did
. For they all cast in from surplus of their wealth, but she in her poverty, cast in all that she had, the whole of her property.
