Chapter 6

. And one Sabbath as Jesus walked in the fields, his disciples picked heads of grain, and ground them in their hands and ate
? And some of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you do something which it is not permitted to do on the Sabbath
? Jesus answered them, Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those with him
How he entered into the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Lord's table, and gave it to those that were with him, which it was not permitted, except for the priests alone, to eat
. And he said to them, The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath
. And on another Sabbath, he entered a synagogue and taught. And there a man was, whose right hand was withered
. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether or not he would heal on the Sabbath, so they might charge him with it
And as he knew their thoughts, however, he said to the man with a withered hand, Get up and come here amid the congregation. Then he got up and stood there
? Jesus said to them, I ask you, Is it permitted to do good on the Sabbath, or do that which is evil ? To save life or to destroy it
. And he looked upon them all, and then said to him, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched out his hand, and it was restored like the other
. And they were filled with envy, and they asked one another what they should do to Jesus
. And in those days, Jesus withdrew to a mountain to pray, and he spent the night there, in communion with God
, At dawn, he called his followers, and selected from them twelve, whom he named Apostles
, Simon whom he named Kephas, and Andrew his brother, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew
, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Simon who was called Zealot
. and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot,  who turned traitor
And Jesus came down from there with them, and stood in the plain, and many of his disciples, and a crowd people, from all Judaea, and from Jerusalem and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon
. who came to hear him, and to be cured of their afflictions, and those who were afflicted by unclean spirits, and they were healed
. And the whole crowd was trying to touch him. for there went a strength out of him and healed them all
. And he raised his eyes to his disciples, and said, Blessed are you poor, for the Realm of God is yours
. Blessed are you that hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you that weep now, for you will laugh
. Blessed are you, when the sons of men shall hate you, and set you apart, and insult you, and cast out your names as vile, on account of the Son of Man
. On that day rejoice and exult, for your reward shall be great in heaven, for so did their fathers to the prophets
. Woe to you that are wealthy, you have received your comfort
. Woe to you that are full, for you will hunger. Woe to you that laugh now, for you will weep and mourn
. Woe to you, when the sons of men  speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets
, But to you who hear me, I say, Love your enemies, and do good to those that hate you
. and bless those who curse you, and pray for those that treat you badly
. To him that slaps your cheek, offer the other one, and when someone takes away your cloak, keep back not your coat as well
. To every one that begs to you, give, and from him that takes your possessions, do not demand it back
. And do to the sons of men as you would have them do to you
. For if you love only those that love you, what merit is that to you ? Even sinners love those that love them
. And if you do good to only those that do good to you, what merit is that to you? For even sinners do the same
And if you only lend to someone from whom you can expect repayment, what merit is that to you ? For sinners also lend to sinners, expecting full repayment
But love your opponents, and do good to them, and lend, and sadden not the hopes of anyone, and great will be your reward, and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is compassionate to the wicked, and to the ungrateful
. Be then compassionate, as your Father is compassionate
. Judge not, and you will not be judged, condemn not, and you will not be condemned, forgive, and you will be forgiven
Give, and it will be given to you, in full measure, pressed down, and overflowing, will they fall into your lap. For, the amount you measure out is the amount measured to you
? And he told them a parable: Can a blind man lead another? Surely both will fall into the ditch
. No student is better than his teacher, for even fully trained, he will be but equal to his teacher
? And why look at the straw that is in your brother's eye, but ignore the beam that is in your own eye
Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, allow me to remove the straw from your eye, yet fail to miss the beam in your own, Hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your eye, and then your sight will be clear enough to pick the straw from your brother's
. There is no good tree, that bears bad fruits, nor a bad tree, that bears good fruits
. For every tree is known by its yield. Do men gather figs from thorn-bushes ? So, neither do they pluck grapes from brambles
A good man, from the good stored in his heart, brings about goodness, and a bad man, from the evil that is stored in his heart, brings about evilness. For the lips speak from the fullness of the heart
? And why call me, Lord, Lord, when you do not practice that which I teach you
, Every one that comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you to whom he is compared
He is like a man that built a house, and he dug deep, and laid the foundations on a rock, and when a flood came, the flood rushed upon that house, and could not move it, for its foundation rested on a rock
But he that hears and does not, is like a man that built his house upon the earth, without a foundation, and when the torrent rushed upon it, it fell immediately, and the ruin of that house was great

Chapter 7

. And when he had completed all these sermons in the audience of the people, Jesus entered into Capernaum
. And the servant of a centurion, who was dear to him, was very ill, and near to death
. And he heard of Jesus, and sent Jewish elders to him, and requested him if he would come and save the life of his servant
, And when they approached Jesus, they appealed to him in earnest, and said, He is worthy that you should do this for him
. for he loves our people, and has also built us a synagogue
And Jesus went with them. And when he near the house, the centurion sent his friends to say to him, My Lord, trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof
. therefore I deem myself not worthy to approach you myself, speak but the word alone, and my young man will be healed
For I also am a man subject to authority, and I have soldiers under my command, and I say to this one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it
And when Jesus heard these things, he respected him, and he turned, and said to the throng that followed him, I say to you, I have not found faith like this even in Israel
. And they that were sent, returned to the house, and they found the servant that had been sick, now well
. And the following day, he went to a town called Nain , and his disciples were with him, and a great crowd
And as he approached the gate of the town, he saw a procession bearing a dead man, the only son of his mother, a widow, and many of the people of the town were with her
. And Jesus looked upon her, and took compassion on her, and he said to her, Do not cry
And he went, and touched the litter, and they that carried him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Get up
.And the dead man sat up, and began to talk, and he gave him back to his mother
. And awe gripped all the people, and they glorified God, and said, A great Holy Man has arisen among us, and God has visited his people
. And that report about him spread through all Judaea and all the surrounding region
.And the disciples of John told him all these things
? And John called two of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, and say, Are you he that is to come, or should we look for another
? And they came to Jesus, and said to him, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you he that is to come, or should we look for another
And at that time he healed many people of their afflictions, and of plagues, and of unholy spirits, and gave back sight to many blind persons
And Jesus replied, and said to them, Go, and tell John all that you have seen and heard, that the blind see, and the lame walk, and the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead get up, and to the poor good news is announced
. and blessed is he that finds no stumbling block in me
? And when John's disciples left, Jesus began to say to the crowd, about John, What did you go to see in the desert ? a reed swayed by the wind
. Or if not, what did you go out to see ? a man dressed well ? They that dress luxuriously are in kings palaces
. Or if not, what did you go out to see ? a prophet ? Yes? I say to you, and more than a prophet
. For this is he, who is written of, Behold, I send my messenger ahead of you, to prepare your way before you
I say to you, that no prophet, among those born of women, was greater than John the Baptist, and yet the least in the Realm of God, is greater than he
. And all the people that heard him, praised God, as they had been baptized with John's baptism
. But the Pharisees and scribes rejected the favor of God, against themselves, as they were not baptized by him
? To what, therefore, should I compare this generation? and to what are they like
They are like children, that sit in the market place, and call to their fellows and say, We have piped a tune for you, and you did not dance, we have lamented to you, and you did not cry
. For John the Baptist came, not eating bread, and not drinking wine, and you say, He is insane
. The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, and one fond of tax collectors and sinners
. But wisdom is vindicated by all her children
. And one of the Pharisees came, and asked him to eat with him. And he entered the house of the Pharisee, and sat back
And there was a woman in the city, who was a sinner, and when she learned that he sat in the Pharisee's house, she took an alabaster flask of perfumed oil
and stood behind him, at his feet, and had tears, and she began to bathe his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and anointed them with the perfume
And when the Pharisee that invited him, saw it, he thought to himself, and said, If this man were a Holy man, he would know who she is, and what is her reputation, for the woman that touches him is a sinner
: And Jesus answered, and said to him: Simon, I have something to say to you. He said to him: Say it, Master. Jesus said to him
. There were two debtors to a certain creditor, the one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty denarii
? And as they had not the means to repay, he excused them both. Which of them, therefore will love him most
Simon replied, and said: I suppose he who was most excused. Jesus said to him: You have judged correctly
And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon: See this woman? I entered your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has bathed my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair
. You gave me no kiss, but this woman, since she came in, has not stopped kissing my feet
. You did not anoint my head with perfume, but she has anointed my feet with perfumed ointment
. I say to you, therefore, Her many offenses are forgiven her, for she loves much. But to he whom forgives less, he loves less
. And he said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven you
? And they that were sitting back, began to say in themselves, Who is this, that even forgives sins
. And Jesus said to the woman: Your faith has given you Life. Now, go in peace

Chapter 8

And after these things Jesus traveled about the towns and the villages, and preached and announced of the Realm of God. And with him were his twelve
, and those women who were healed of sickness and of unholy spirits, Mary called Magdalena, out of whom left seven demons
. and Joanna the wife of Chusa, Herod's attendant, and Susanna, and many others, who assisted them with their properties
, And when a great crowd gathered, and people came to him from all the towns, he said, in parables
. A farmer went out to sow his seed, and as he seeded, some fell by the side of the path, and was trampled upon, and a bird ate it
. And others fell upon rock, and sprouted, but, as it lacked moisture, it dried up
. And others fell among weeds, and the weeds sprouted with it, and choked it
And others fell on good fertile ground, and sprouted up, and yielded, a hundred for one. Having said these things, he lamented, He that has ears to hear, let him hear
? And his disciples asked him, what is the meaning of this parable
And he said to them, To you it is given, to know the mysteries of the Realm of God, but to others, it is spoken in parables, that, while looking, they may not see, and while hearing, may not understand
. But parable is, The seed is the word of God
And those by the side of the path, are they that hear the word, and the opponent comes and takes the word out of their heart, that they may not believe and Live
And those upon the rock, are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy, but they have no attachment in them, and their faith is fleeting, and in time of testing, fall
And that which fell among weeds, are those who hear the word, but are choked by concerns, and by wealth, and by earthly passions, and yield not
. And that on good earth, are those who, with a humble and good heart, hear the word, and accept it, and with patience, yield
. No one lights a lamp, and covers it with a cover, or places it under a bed, but sets it upon a light-stand, that all who come in, may see by the light of it
. For there is nothing hidden, that shall not be revealed, nor concealed, that should not be known and be exposed
. Take heed how you listen, to him that has not shall be given from him that has, and even what he thinks he has
. And his mother and his brothers came to him, and they could not talk with him, because of the crowd
. And they said to him, Your mother and your brothers stand outside, and wish to see you
. And he answered and said, My mother and my brothers, are they who hear the word of God, and act upon it
. And on a certain day Jesus boarded and sat in a boat, he and his disciples. And he said to them, Let us sail over to the other side of the lake
. And while they were rowing, Jesus fell asleep. And there was a windstorm on the lake, and the boat was nearly sinking
And they came and woke him, and said to him, Master, Master, we are doomed! And he got up, and reprimanded the winds and the waves of the water, and they stopped, and there was calm
And he said to them, Where is your faith ? And they being in awe, wondered, and said one to another, Who is this, that orders even the winds, and the waves, and the sea, and they listen to him
. And they rowed on, and came to the country of the Gadarenes, which lays over across Galilee
And when he went on to land, there, met him a man of the town, in whom had been a unholy spirit for a long time, and he wore no clothing, and did not live in a house, but amongst the tombs
And when he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and said, with a loud voice, What have we to do with you? Jesus, you Son of the exalted God. I beg of you to not harass me
For Jesus had commanded the unholy spirit, to leave the man, for a long time he had been held hostage by him, and he had been bound with chains, and held in restraints, but he had broke the shackles, and had been driven by the unholy spirit into the desert
And Jesus demanded of him, What is your name? And he replied, Legion, because many unholy spirits had entered into him
. And they begged him, not to order them back into the void of chaos
And there was a herd of many pigs grazing on the hill. And they begged him, that he would allow them to enter the pigs. And he allowed them to
And the unholy spirits left the man, and entered the pigs, and the whole herd ran to a cliff, and plunged into the lake, and drowned
. And when the swineherds saw what had occurred, they fled, and reported it in the towns and villages
And the people went out to see what had happened. And they approached Jesus, and found the man, out of who the unholy spirits had left, now modest and dressed, and sitting by the feet of Jesus, and they were awestruck
. And they that saw it, it was reported to them in what manner the demoniac was cured
And the whole crowd of the Gadarenes demanded him to leave them, for they were overcame by much fear. And Jesus boarded a boat, and withdrew from among them
And the man, from who the unholy spirits had left, requested that he might accompany him. But Jesus declined him, and said
Return to your home, and tell of what God has done for you. And he went away, and announced all through the town what Jesus had done for him
. And when Jesus returned, a great crowd greeted him, for all were looking for him
And a man, whose name was Jairus, a official of the synagogue, fell down at the feet of Jesus, and begged him to enter his house
. for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was near dying. And as Jesus went with him, a great crowd pressed upon him
And a certain woman, whose blood had hemorrhaged for twelve years, and who had loss all her property to pay doctors, and could not be cured by any one
. came up behind him, and touched the hem of his garment, and instantly her bleeding stopped
? And Jesus said, Who touched me? And when everyone denied it, Simon Kephas and those with him said to him, Master, a crowd presses up against you, and you say, Who touched me
. And he said, Some one touched me, for I am aware of that energy that went out from me
And the woman, when she saw that she had not escaped his notice, came trembling, and fell down and paid him homage. And in the presence of all the people, she announced for what reason she had touched him, and that she had been instantly healed
. And Jesus said to her, Be brave, my daughter, Your faith has given Life to you, Now go in peace
And while he was speaking, one came from the house of the official of the synagogue, and said to him, Your daughter is dead, do not bother the teacher
. And Jesus heard it, and said to the father of the girl, Do not be afraid, only believe, and she will live
And Jesus came to the house, and he asked for none to enter with him, except Simon, and James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl
And all were crying and sobbing over her. And Jesus said, Cry not, for she is not dead, but sleeps
. And they ridiculed him, knowing that she was dead
. And he cleared every one out, and took her by the hand, and called, and said, Girl, get up
. And her spirit returned, and she instantly got up. And he ordered them to give her food
. And her parents were astonished, and he requested them to tell no one about what happened

Chapter 9

. And Jesus called his twelve, and gave them power and authority over all unholy spirits and diseases, to heal them
. And he sent them forth, to proclaim the Realm of God, and to heal the sick
. And he said to them, Take nothing for the journey, not a walking stick, nor a travel bag, nor bread, nor money, not even two shirts
. And into whatever house you enter, there stay, and then leave
. And to the unreceptive, when you leave that town, dust off your feet, as a declaration to them
. And the Apostles went forth, and traveled about the villages and towns, and preached and healed everywhere
. And Herod the Tetrarch heard of all the things done by him, and he was worried, because some said, that John had returned from the dead
. But others said, that Elijah has appeared, and others, that a prophet from among the ancient prophets has arisen
. And Herod said, I have cut off the head of John, but who is this, of whom I hear these things? And he was wanting to see him
. And when the Apostles returned, they recounted to Jesus all they had done. And he took them aside, to the deserted part of Bethsaida
And when the crowd learned of it, they followed him, and he received them, and conversed with them concerning the Realm of God, and those in need of healing, he healed
And when the day began to wane, his disciples came near, and said to him, Send away the crowd, that they may go to the villages around us and to the towns, to lodge in them, and to acquire themselves food, for we are in a deserted place
Jesus said to them, Feed them. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people
. for they were about five thousand people. Jesus said to them, Make them sit by groups, fifty persons in a group
. And the disciples did so, and made them all sit as such
And Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, and looked towards heaven, and blessed them, and broke the bread, and gave to his disciples to give the crowd
. And they all ate, and were satisfied, and the [leftover] scraps took up twelve baskets
? And as he was praying in private with his disciples, he asked them, and said, Who do the crowds say I am
. They answered and said to him, John the Baptist, others, Elijah and others, a prophet, one of the ancient prophets arisen
. He said to them, But who do you say, that I am? Simon answered, and said, The Savior, from God
. And he implored them, and requested them that they should say this to no one
And he said to them, The Son of Man is to suffer many things, to be rejected by the elders and the high priests and scribes, and be killed by them, and on the third day, he will arise
. And he said before all the people, He that would follow me, must deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and so follow after me
. For he that would save his life, shall lose it, but he that should lose his life, on my account, will save it
? For what would a man profit, if he gains the whole world, and lose his life or deprives himself of it
And whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father, with his holy angels
. I tell you the truth, that there are some standing here, who will not taste death, before they view the Realm of God
. And it was about eight days after these sermons, that Jesus took Simon and James and John, and went up a mountain to pray
. And while he prayed, the configuration of his appearance changed, and his clothes became white and brilliant
, And two men were talking with him, and they were Moses and Elijah
. who appeared in resplendence. And they were discussing his passage, which he was to fulfill at Jerusalem
And Simon and those with him were hampered by drowsiness, and being barely awake, they saw his resplendence, and of those two men who stood near him
And when they began to withdraw from him, Simon said to Jesus, Master, it is joyful for us to be here. Let us make here three stands, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. But he did not really know what he was saying
And he while spoke, there was a cloud, and it cast a shadow over them, and they were afraid when they saw Moses and Elijah go up into the cloud
. And there was a voice from the mist, which said, This is my beloved Son, Listen to him
. And when the voice had passed, Jesus was found to be alone. And they kept quiet, and told no one at that time what they had seen
. And the next day, as they came down from the mountain, a great crowd met them
, And a man from the crowd cried out, and said, Teacher, I beg you, look my way. Here is my only son
. upon him a spirit comes, and he suddenly wails, and gnashes his teeth, and foams, and then leaves him shattered
. And I asked your disciples to expel him, and they could not
And Jesus answered, and said, What a unbelieving and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you and endure you? Bring your son here
And while he brought him, the unholy spirit threw him down into convulsions. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the lad, and turned him back over to his father
, And they all marveled at the majesty of God. And while everyone was admiring all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples
. Pay close attention to what I tell you, for the Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men
But they did not understand that warning, because it was obscure to them, it's meaning covert, and they were afraid to ask him about that statement
. And the thought came up between them, which of them was to be the greatest
, And Jesus, who knew their innermost thoughts, took a child, and set him near to him
and said to them, Whoever accepts a child like this, in my name, accepts me, and he that accepts me, accepts him that sent me. For he that is least among you all, he will be the greatest
And John answered, and said, Master, we saw a man expelling unholy spirits in your name, and we stopped him, because he does not follow you with us
. Jesus said to them, Don't stop him, for, whoever is not opposing you, is for you
. And when the days before his ascension were concluding, so it was, that he turned to go up to Jerusalem
. And he sent messengers on ahead, and they went, and entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare a place for him to stay
. And they did not welcome him, because he was heading to Jerusalem
? And when his disciples James and John saw that, they said to him, Lord, will you call down fire from above, and waste them, as did Elijah, too
. And he turned and reprimanded them, and said, You do not know of what spirit you are
. For the Son of Man has not come to take souls, but give them Life. And they went to another village
. And as they went along, one said to him, I will follow to whatever place you go, my Lord
Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have sheltered perches, but the Son of Man has nowhere he may rest his head
. And he said to another, Follow me. And he said to him, My Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father
. And Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead, and you follow and announce the Realm of God
. Another said to him, I will follow you, Lord, but first allow me to say goodbye to my household, and I will come
. Jesus said to him, No man whose hand aligns the plow, and looks backwards, is fit for the Realm of God

Chapter 10

After this, Jesus appointed from among his disciples seventy others, and sent them ahead, in pairs, to every place and town where he was to go
And he said to them, The harvest is great, and the workers few, pray therefore, that the master of the harvest send workers to his harvest
. Go, I send you away, as lambs among wolves
. Take no purse, nor satchels, nor shoes, and greet no man along the way
. And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace unto this house
. And if the man there is peaceful, your greeting will settle upon it, but if not, your greeting will come back to you
. And stay in that house, eat and drink of what it can afford, for the worker is worthy of his wages. And do not move house by house
. And into whatever town you enter, and they welcome you, eat that which set before you
. And heal these sick in it, and say to them, The Realm of God is close to you
, And into whatever town you enter, and they do not welcome you, go out into the street, and say
. Even the dust of your town which clings to our feet, we shake off, but know this, that the Realm of God is close to you
. I say to you, that Sodom will be relieved on that day, rather than to be that town
Woe to you, Chorazin, woe to you, Bethsaida, for if in Tyre and Sidon there had been the miracles that were done in you, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes
. But for Tyre and Sidon there will be relief on the day of judgment, rather than be you
. And you, Capernaum, that exalts [yourself] to the heavens, shall be throw down to hell
. He that hears you, hears me, and he that despises you, despises me, and he that despises me, despises him that sent me
. And the seventy whom he sent away returned rejoicing, and said to him, Lord, even the unholy spirits submitted to us, in your name
. And he said to them, I watched Satan fall, like the lightning from heaven
. Behold, I give you power to tread on vipers, and scorpions, and over all the power of the adversary, and nothing will hurt you
. Yet do not be glad that the unholy spirits submit to you, rather, be glad that your names are inscribed in heaven
At that moment Jesus exulted in the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank you, my Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the learned and clever, and have revealed them to children, yes, my Father, for such pleased you well
And he turned to his disciples, and said to them, Every thing is given over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, or who the Father is, but the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal [him]
. And he turned to his disciples, privately, and said, Blessed are the eyes that see what you see
For I say to you, that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it
? And behold, a scribe stood up to test him, and said, Teacher, what must I do, to inherit eternal life
? And Jesus said to him, How is it written in the law? How do you read it
He answered and said to him, You should love the Lord your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might, and with all your mind, and your neighbor, as yourself
. Jesus said to him, You have said true, do this, and you will Live
? And he, being inclined to qualify himself, said, And who is my neighbor
Jesus said to him, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and robbers fell upon him, plundered and beat him, and left him near death, and went their way
. And a certain priest went down that way, and saw him, and passed by
. So also a Levite came, approached the spot, and saw him, and passed by
, But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came to where he was, and saw him, and took pity on him
and went to him, and bandaged up his wounds, and poured wine and oil on them, and hoisted him up on his donkey, and brought him to the inn, and took care of him
And the next morning, he took out two denarii and gave to the innkeeper, and said, Take good care of him, and if you incur any more expenses, when I return, I will repay you
? Which therefore of these three, appears to you, to have been neighbor to him that fell into the hands of robbers
. And he said, He that had pity on him. Jesus said to him, Go, and do the same
And it occurred, as they traveled along the way, that he entered a certain village, and a woman whose name was Martha, welcomed him to her house
. And she had a sister whose name, was Mary, and she came and seated herself at the feet of our Lord, and listened to his sermons
But Martha was busy with waiting on them, and when she came, and said to him, My Lord, you do not care, that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me
, Jesus answered, and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about so many things
. yet only one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen for herself the good part, which is not to be taken from her

Chapter 11

And as he was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples
Jesus said to them, When you pray, say as such, Our Father in heaven, holy be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth
, give us the bread we need everyday
. and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive all that offended us, and bring us not into trial, but deliver us from evil
And he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, that shall come to him at midnight and say to him, My friend, lend me three loaves
? for a friend has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him
And his friend within shall answer, and say to him, Do not disturb me, the door is closed, and my children with me in bed, I not able to get up and give to you
I say to you, If he gives him not, on account of friendship, yet on account of annoyance, he will get up and give him as much as he asks
. I say also to you, Ask, and it will be given you, seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you
. For every one that asks, receives, and he that seeks, finds, and to him that knocks, it is opened
? For which of you being a father, if his son should ask him for bread, will he extend to him a stone ? Or, if he ask of him a fish, will he, instead of a fish, extend to him a viper
? Or, if he ask of him an egg, will he extend to him a scorpion
? And if you, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him
And as he was expelling a unholy spirit that was mute, when the unholy spirit had left, the mute [man] spoke, and awestruck the crowd
. But some of them said, It is by Beelzebub, the prince of unholy spirits, that he casts out unholy spirits
. And others, to test him, asked of him a sign from heaven
But Jesus, as he knew their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom that is divided against itself, will become desolated, and a house that is divided against itself, will fall
. And if Satan be divided against himself, how will his kingdom last ? since you say it is by Beelzebub that I expel unholy spirits
. And if I, by Beelzebub, expel unholy spirits, by whom do your sons cast out? Therefore they will be your judges
. But if [you say] I, by the finger of God, expel unholy spirits, the Realm of God is close to you
. When a strong man, well armed guards his doorway, his property lays secure
But if one stronger than he comes and overpowers him, he takes away all his arms on which he relied, and divides the spoils of him
. He that is not with me, is against me, and he that gathers not with me, actually scatters
When an unholy spirit leaves a man, it goes wandering in places where no water is, in order to find a rest, and as he cannot find any, says, I will go back from where I came
. And when he returns, he finds it swept clean and orderly
Then he goes and takes seven other spirits, worse than himself, and they enter in and dwell there, and the final state of that man is worse than the first
And while he was saying these things, a certain woman from the crowd, raised her voice, and said to him, Blessed is the womb that carried you, and the breasts that nursed you
. He said to her, Blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it
And when crowds were gathered, he began to say, This evil generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet
. For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be a sign to this generation
The queen of the south will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them, for she came from the other corner of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and one greater to Solomon is here
The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and one superior to Jonah is here
No one lights a lamp, and putts it in a hidden place, or under a basket, but upon a light-stand, that they who come in, may see its light
The lamp of your body is your eye. Therefore, when your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light, but if it is bad, your body will be darkness as well
. See to it, then, that the light inside you is not darkness
For if your whole body be filled with light, and no trace in darkness, the whole will be light, as when a lamp shines on you with its rays
. And while he was speaking, a certain Pharisee invited him to dine with him, and he went in and sat
. And the Pharisee noticing him, wondered why he did not perform ablutions before dinner
And Jesus said to him, Now you Pharisees make clean the exterior of the cup and the dish, but your interior is full of extortion and wickedness
? You lack in understanding! Did not he who made the exterior, make also the interior
. But, if you give as what you have as alms, everything will be wiped clean to you
But woe to you, Pharisees ! for you tithe mint and rue, and every pot-herb, but pass over justice and the love of God. Now you ought to do these things, without omitting the others
. Woe to you, Pharisees! who love the front seats in the synagogues, and greetings of respect in the streets
. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites ! for you are like graves that are hidden, and men walk over them and know not
. And one of the scribes replied, and said to him, Teacher, while saying these things, you insult us also
And he said, Woe to you also! you scribes, who lay heavy burdens on men, yet you yourselves will not lift even one of your fingers to lighten those burdens
. Woe to you! who build the tombs of the prophets, whom your fathers murdered
. Thus you testify, that you acquiesce in the deeds of your fathers, for they murdered them, and you build their tombs
, Therefore has wisdom said, I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will persecute and kill
, that from this generation may accounted, the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed since the world was created
from the blood of Abel, to the blood of Zachariah who was slain between the temple and the altar. I say to you, This generation will have to account for it
Woe to you, scribes, for you have taken away the keys of knowledge you yourselves gain not access to, yet you hinder those that wish to
And when he had said these things to them, the scribes and Pharisees began to be offended, and became angry, and criticized his sermons
. and tried to set him up, seeking to catch some thing from his lips, that they might accuse him
